The songs were written and produced with the thought of soulmates and fate in mind, with the chorus of "In the Stars" mentioning commonly known tropes used when writing about fated relationships.
The two tracks are meant to create a sense of parallelism between each other. The title track, "In the Stars" has this dreamy, hopeless romantic feel as the lyrics discuss how desperate one is to finally meet their soulmate. While "You and I" can be considered the aftermath of that, in the case of the artist, rosie writes this with the intention of it also being seen as a parallel universe, where she's already found her soulmate and they live in their own little world of just the two of them. The two songs together are meant to show the different sides of her as a person when it comes to the idea of loving versus the action of loving.
